Infomation on soccer :
Soccer was first developed in England in the 19th century. In 1904 the Federation International de Football Association, or FIFA was founded. (Soccer is called Football in some other countries.) Chinese, Greek, Mayan, and Egyptian ancient societies show that kicking games were played in those cultures. The best soccer player was Pele. His real name is Edson Arantes Do Nascimento. The Soccer Industry Council of America guessed that more than 13,000,000 boys and girls under 18 years old played soccer by 1994. Regular league play started in England in 1888.

The Youth Olympic Games is an international sport. Singapore will be hosting many sports during the Youth Olympic Games. There is in total about 26 sports. Every sport has its own meaning and value. These sports are meant to be for teenagers age 14-18. The Youth Olympic Games allow the youth to show their talents.

Archery

One of these sports that I choose would be archery. Archery is the art, practice and skill by propelling arrows with the use of a bow. In modern times, archery has been used for hunting but now it is used for recreational activity. A person who practices archery is known as an “archer”. Here are some pictures of archery

My Favorite Sport Short Introduction
In spite of the fact that there are actually table tennis tournaments all over the world, especially in China where table tennis is a major sport, the game itself isn't really taken seriously by many people. We could debate on the why of this until our sun goes nova but we'll leave that debate for another time.

Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14 to 26 August 2010. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will receive some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), along with estimated 800 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 500,000 spectators. It will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.
My favourite sports is Basketball . The game of basketball can be traced back to a gentleman by the name of Dr. James Naismith. In 1861, Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. During his early school days, Naismith would play a game called duck on a rock whereby the child would endeavor to knock the duck off the top of the rock with a toss of another rock.
Later on, Naismith would go on to McGill University in Montreal and would later become McGill University’s Athletic Director. He would subsequently move on to YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts and in 1891, the game of basketball began.
Given the cold Massachusetts winters, Naismith needed to find a recreational activity that could be played indoors and he preferred a sport that would develop skill and one that was not exclusively relying on strength. The first game was played with two peach baskets for goals and a soccer ball.
Further to his credit, Naismith became a medical doctor specializing in sports physiology and a Presbyterian minister. Naismith was able to see his beloved sport of basketball, gain acceptance in numerous countries through the YMCA since 1893. As well, the sport of basketball was brought forth at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. As we speak, the game of basketball has become a very popular sport.

Some of these adjustments included the creation of the Winter Games for ice and snow sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with physical disabilities, and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes. The IOC also had to accommodate the Games to the varying economical, political, and technological realities of the 20th century. As a result, the Olympics shifted away from pure amateurism, as envisioned by Coubertin, to allow participation of professional athletes. The growing importance of the mass media created the issue of corporate sponsorship and commercialization of the Games.The Olympic Movement currently comprises international sports federations (IFs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and organizing committees for each specific Olympic Games. As the decision-making body, the IOC is responsible for choosing the host city for each Olympic Games. The host city is responsible for organizing and funding a celebration of the Games consistent with the Olympic Charter. The Olympic program, consisting of the sports to be contested at each Olympic Games, is also determined by the IOC. The celebration of the Games encompasses many rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. There are over 13,000 athletes that compete at the Summer and Winter Olympics in 33 different sports and nearly 400 events. The first, second, and third place finishers in each event receive gold, silver or bronze Olympic medals, respectively.The Games have grown in scale to the point that nearly every nation is represented. Such growth has created numerous challenges, including boycotts, doping, bribery of officials, and terrorism. Every two years, the Olympics and its media exposure provide unknown athletes with the chance to attain national, and in particular cases, international fame. The Games also constitute a major opportunity for the host city and country to promote and showcase themselves to the world. {Source from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_Games}

The Information of YOG

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG)[1] are planned to be an international multi-sport event held every four years in staggered summer and winter events complementing the current Olympic Games,[2] and will feature athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.[3] The idea for such an event was envisioned in 2001 by International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Jacques Rogge.[4] On July 6, 2007, IOC members at the 119th IOC session in Guatemala City approved the creation of a youth version of the Olympic Games.[5]
The summer version will last at most twelve days, with the first edition taking place in mid-summer of 2010; the winter version will last a maximum of nine days, with the first edition taking place in early 2012.[6][7] The IOC will allow a maximum of 3,500 athletes and 875 officials to participate at the summer games,[8] while 970 athletes and 580 officials are expected at the winter games.[5]
Several other Olympic events for youth, like the European Youth Olympic Festival held every other year with summer and winter versions, and the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, have proven successful; the Youth Games would most likely be modeled after these.[4] The YOG are a successor to the discontinued World Youth Games.

My favorite Sport…

My favorite sport is badminton. Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court that is divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the ground, and each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net.
The shuttlecock (or shuttle) is a feathered projectile whose unique aerodynamic properties cause it to fly differently from the balls used in most racquet sports; in particular, the feathers create much higher drag, causing the shuttlecock to decelerate more rapidly than a ball. Shuttlecocks have a much higher top speed, when compared to other racquet sports. Because shuttlecock flight is affected by wind, competitive badminton is best played indoors. Badminton is also played outdoors as a casual recreational activity, often as a garden or beach game.
Since 1992, badminton has been an Olympic sport with five events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, in which each pair is a man and a woman. At high levels of play, the sport demands excellent fitness: players require aerobic stamina, agility, strength, speed and precision. It is also a technical sport, requiring good motor coordination and the development of sophisticated racquet movements….

My favourite sport is Volley Ball.
The game is played on a volleyball court 18 meters (59 feet) long and 9 meters (29.5 feet) wide, divided into two 9 m × 9 m halves by a one-meter (40-inch) wide net placed so that the top of the net is 2.43 meters (7 feet 11 5/8 inches) above the center of the court for men's competition, and 2.24 meters (7 feet 4 1/8 inches) for women's competition (these heights are varied for veterans and junior competitions).
There is a line 3 meters from and parallel to the net in each team court which is considered the "attack line". This "3 meter" (or 10 foot) line divides the court into "back row" and "front row" areas (also back court and front court). These are in turn divided into 3 areas each: these are numbered as follows, starting from area "1", which is the position of the serving player: After a team gains the serve (also known as siding out), its members must rotate in a clockwise direction, with the player previously in area "2" moving to area "1" and so on, with the player from area "1" moving to area "6".
The team courts are surrounded by an area called the free zone which is a minimum of 3 meters wide and which the players may enter and play within after the service of the ball. All lines denoting the boundaries of the team court and the attack zone are drawn or painted within the dimensions of the area and are therefore a part of the court or zone. If a ball comes in contact with the line, the ball is considered to be "in". An antenna is placed on each side of the net perpendicular to the sideline and is a vertical extension of the side boundary of the court. A ball passing over the net must pass completely between the antennae (or their theoretical extensions to the ceiling) without contacting them

My favorite sport is Basketball. Basketball is my favorite sports because it is very challenging, and it requires lots of patients from the players. Team work and communication between players is also required without team work and communication the team will always be a loser team. Players must also have enough skills inorder to be the winner!

Youth Olympic games sports-swimming

A short introduction of swimming
Everyone knows that exercise is good for you, but just what sort of exercise is the best? Studies have shown that swimming, one of the easiest and most enjoyable forms of exercise, is also one of the most beneficial for your overall well-being. There are a many reasons people take up swimming, whether it is for their health, their enjoyment, or even to protect themselves and their loved ones in the advent of an emergency. Luckily it is not hard to learn, and there are many schools all over the UK who have dedicated instructors willing to take you through the learning process.

It is not surprising that a number of schools throughout the UK are now incorporating swimming into the sporting curriculum, with the aim of improving the health of their students and their awareness of water safety. Although pool-related accidents are not as common in the UK as they are in hotter climates, there are still a large number of water-related accidents (in rivers, canals, ponds and lakes, and at the beach), which could have been prevented had there been a greater awareness of swimming safety. It is important that everyone knows at least the basics of staying safe in the water, even if they are not a regular swimmer – you simply never know when an emergency may arise. Fortunately, learning to swim and being taught about water safety is usually an incredibly enjoyable experience, and most kids (and adults) are happy to take part.

YOG new competition
FOUR new competition venues have been added to the Youth Olympics Games (YOG), replacing five others which have been dropped.
The Games organising committee on Wednesday announced that football - which features at both the YOG and the Asian Youth Games in June - will now be held only at the Jalan Besar stadium.

Hockey will be held at Sengkang Hockey Stadium, instead of the National Hockey Stadium at Delta.
The confirmed 18 competition venues where the 26 sports for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were announced by Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Transport, during a site visit to Bishan Stadium on Wednesday.
‘Singapore won the bid to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games because it has right-sized and excellent facilities and infrastructure,’ said Mr Goh Kee Nguan who is Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) Chief Executive Officer.
No new venues will be built for the Games, which will be held from Aug 14 to 26. Mr Goh added that some of the present facilities will be upgraded to meet competition requirements.
The event will see some 3,600 athletes - aged between 14 and 18 years - compete in 26 sports and take part in Culture and Education Programme. Also expected are 800 officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees, about 800 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 500,000 spectators

My favorite sport

Badminton

Introduction:Badminton is a historically popular and highly skillful racquet game. It is played with a shuttlecock on a rectangular court. Like tennis, the game can be played as singles or doubles - with one person on each side, or two.
Players dart around the court, pitting their reactions and reflexes against the opposition. Four miles can be traveled by a player in the duration of a match, so fitness is paramount.
The shuttlecock flies through the air in amateur and professional games alike, giving the feathered (usually plastic) projectile its affectionate nick name of the ‘bird’. In fact, a powerful smash or serve in badminton regularly beats the top speeds of those of a world class tennis player - up to around 260kph for world class badminton players, compared to Andy Roddick's world-record serve of 246 kph. As such, badminton is arguably the world’s fastest racquet sport.

~Basketball~

For 36 years after basketball entered the Olympic Games as a full medal sport for men, the question was not who would win, but who would finish second. The United States owned the game, and not just because it was invented there. The Soviet Union took home the gold when they toppled the US team in a controversial 1972 game. After another semi-final victory for the Soviets in 1988, the sport opened to professionals. Once again, the question became who would finish second. In Barcelona in 1992, with a squad featuring some of the world's best-known athletes - Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird - the gold-medal winning US "Dream Team" gave an exhibition of basketball at its best. After an NBA All-Star packed team finished only sixth during the recent FIBA World Championship in 2002, the question will remain if the winning streak of US teams can prevail in future Olympic Games.Women's basketball hasn't been quite such a one-sided affair. Since it joined the Olympic programme in 1976, the gold medals have been divided between the US, the Soviet Union and, after the break-up of the Soviet Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States. After a bronze medal in Atlanta and a Silver medal in Sydney, Australia may have their quest for the podium as well as the traditional powerhouse Brazil.

Archery is a sport defined by the use of bows to shoot arrows at a target. Energy is stored in the bow by drawing it back, which is then released by transferring the energy to the arrow. The person who uses the bow to shoot the arrow is called an archer, and someone who is an expert or keen at archery is sometimes referred to as a toxophilite.
Historically its origins lie in combat, survival and hunting, although today it has developed into a sport that is practised in competition. Virtually every culture in the world has a form of archery in its history.:[ http://www.talkarchery.co.uk/guides/introduction_to_archery.html.talkarchery.co.uk/guides/introduction_to_archery.html.talkarchery.co.uk/guides/introduction_to_archery.html]

My Favourite Sports!
My Favourite sport is basketball. Basketball is my favourite sport is because that basketball is my CCA and I personally play basketball outside. Basketball is a tiring sports but it is also a challenging sports for me. I find basketball is very challenging is because that when playing basketball we need to think before playing in the court, but we also need stamina to play in the court. So I think that basketball is very challenging! I just simply love basketball as my favourite sports!!!
