YOG

The Olympic Games are an international event of summer and winter sports, in which thousands of athletes compete in a wide variety of events. The Games are currently held every two years, with Summer and Winter Olympic Games alternating. Originally, the ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, Greece, from the 8th century BC to the 5th century AD. In the late 19th century, Baron Pierre de Coubertin was inspired by Olympic festivals to revive the Games. For this purpose, he founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, and two years later, the modern Olympic Games were established in Athens. The IOC has since become the governing body of the Olympic Movement, whose structure and actions are defined by the Olympic Charter.

Infomation on soccer :
Soccer was first developed in England in the 19th century. In 1904 the Federation International de Football Association, or FIFA was founded. (Soccer is called Football in some other countries.) Chinese, Greek, Mayan, and Egyptian ancient societies show that kicking games were played in those cultures. The best soccer player was Pele. His real name is Edson Arantes Do Nascimento. The Soccer Industry Council of America guessed that more than 13,000,000 boys and girls under 18 years old played soccer by 1994. Regular league play started in England in 1888.

The Youth Olympic Games is an international sport. Singapore will be hosting many sports during the Youth Olympic Games. There is in total about 26 sports. Every sport has its own meaning and value. These sports are meant to be for teenagers age 14-18. The Youth Olympic Games allow the youth to show their talents.

Archery

One of these sports that I choose would be archery. Archery is the art, practice and skill by propelling arrows with the use of a bow. In modern times, archery has been used for hunting but now it is used for recreational activity. A person who practices archery is known as an “archer”. Here are some pictures of archery

Here is a video of archery…..

My Favorite Sport Short Introduction
In spite of the fact that there are actually table tennis tournaments all over the world, especially in China where table tennis is a major sport, the game itself isn't really taken seriously by many people. We could debate on the why of this until our sun goes nova but we'll leave that debate for another time.

Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14 to 26 August 2010. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will receive some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), along with estimated 800 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and more than 500,000 spectators. Young athletes - aged between 14 and 18 years - will compete in 26 sports and take part in Culture and Education Programme.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. It will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.
My favourite sports is Basketball . The game of basketball can be traced back to a gentleman by the name of Dr. James Naismith. In 1861, Naismith was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. During his early school days, Naismith would play a game called duck on a rock whereby the child would endeavor to knock the duck off the top of the rock with a toss of another rock.
Later on, Naismith would go on to McGill University in Montreal and would later become McGill University’s Athletic Director. He would subsequently move on to YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts and in 1891, the game of basketball began.
Given the cold Massachusetts winters, Naismith needed to find a recreational activity that could be played indoors and he preferred a sport that would develop skill and one that was not exclusively relying on strength. The first game was played with two peach baskets for goals and a soccer ball.
Further to his credit, Naismith became a medical doctor specializing in sports physiology and a Presbyterian minister. Naismith was able to see his beloved sport of basketball, gain acceptance in numerous countries through the YMCA since 1893. As well, the sport of basketball was brought forth at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. As we speak, the game of basketball has become a very popular sport.
